How can you best garnish and prepare your organic meat?

August 26, 2014

Once you have the perfect cut of grass-fed organic meat and have carefully selected the best recipe, you may wonder how you can give it that extra something special to transform it into a feast for the eyes as well as your taste buds.

Here are some suggestions to help you present those organic beef and lamb cuts like a professional.

Choose your garnishes carefully

When selecting ingredients to embellish your food, make sure you choose relevant or complementary ingredients or flavours. You wouldn’t want to decorate your lamb Korma with a lemon wedge for example!

However, remember that garnishes should always be edible to really impress your dinner guests.

Make sure you have the right plate sizes

It is important you choose the right plate size for your meal. This means the decoration also needs to be in proportion to the amount of food, construction and colours in your dish.

Practice your presentation

Before you embark on a complicated display, you should have a practice run so you know how it works. If you are planning to construct a tower for visual effect, remember it often works best to build a stable base first. Many chefs put the starch or vegetable on the bottom with the organic meat at the top of the stack, as the key component of your dish.

Keep it simple

Anything too complicated can detract from the taste and enjoyment of your meal, as it can compromise flavour and the visual effect. Instead, use simple garnishes for maximum effect.

If you can, try and use other components of your meal as a garnish. For instance, if you are serving a steak and salad, you could chop cherry tomatoes in half and present them around the edge of your plate for a simple yet elegant presentation.
