When you’re feeling under the weather, it seems like nothing can pull you out of your slump. However, there are many simple ways you can lead a healthier life and put a spring in your step. Here are three of them:
1. Choose organic meat and produce. Eating a selection of vegetables every day is important to get your daily dose of nutrients and minerals. Foods such as sun-dried tomatoes and spinach are high in potassium and can keep your kidneys and bones healthy and lower your blood pressure. Organic produce is processed without any potentially harmful chemical pesticides or fertilisers – only natural fertilisers, such as manure or compost, can be used. Organic animal products are never given growth hormones or antibiotics, and with this product you’re also going to get higher levels of nutrients like omega-3s, according to the Environmental Working Group.
2. Get a good night’s sleep. Allow yourself to get a substantial amount of sleep every night and you’re bound to feel better for it. According to the Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School, scientists have proven that sleep is vital for humans and other animals. Getting enough sleep means you will have a stronger immune system, your metabolism will be boosted, you’ll have better memory retention, pick things up quicker and your body will function better overall.
3. Be more active. Doing regular exercise, even walking the 30 minutes to work as opposed to driving, is necessary for a healthier life. According to the Harvard University School of Public Health: The Nutrition Source, regular physical activity greatly improves the function of your body and mind. It keeps you away from heart disease, diabetes, many other illnesses and leads to higher cognitive function, better moods, more energy, stronger muscles and a healthier heart and lungs.
