The annual celebration of St Patrick’s Day is fast approaching, and it’s a time to rejoice in all things green, Irish, and lucky.
March 17 is enjoyed by people all over the world, with plenty getting right into the spirit of things – so why not join in on the fun yourself?
Part of St Patrick’s Day is celebrating Irish traditional cuisine, so what better way to get into the spirit of things by hosting a St Paddy’s themed dinner party – complete with organic meat, of course!
Here are two delicious Irish-inspired recipe ideas to get your dinner party menu started:
Guinness Irish Stew
A hearty and flavoursome stew with a touch of traditional Irish Guinness is a perfect main for any St Patrick’s party. This stew is delicious with either beef or lamb, so choose depending on guest preference.
There are plenty of variations on this recipe, but the general ingredients are organic lamb or beef, Guinness or other Irish Stout beer, roughly chopped potatoes, carrot, thyme, parsley, garlic, onions, cayenne pepper and vegetable oil and garlic paste.
It’s best to leave stew to simmer for a couple of hours to ensure the meat is tender and flavours fully absorbed, so set aside some time to prepare before guests arrive.
Corned organic beef and cabbage
Ask any Irishman what the nation’s most famous meat dish is and he’ll answer corned beef. This is a favourite with any dinner party guest, so it’s sure to be a hit at your St Patrick’s Day party. Once again, this recipe needs a little time to turn out well, so prepare ahead of time.
Combine succulent organic corned beef brisket with bay leaf, thyme, Italian parsley, onions, carrots, potatoes, horseradish, onions, cabbage and a generous grind of salt and pepper.
The key to this dish is giving it time to cook through, leaving you with a melt-in-your-mouth gourmet dinner.
After dinner, enjoy a tipple or two of whiskey, a strong stout beer or a tempting Irish coffee, complete with lashings of whipped cream.
