Although the official ‘summer months’ are drawing to a close, the hot weather is going nowhere – there is still plenty of time to host a barbecue with friends and family at your place.
There are few things better than spending a night with friends and family, with the kids playing in the garden and a few beverages on the deck. Not to mention the delicious food – including the must-have organic meat steak cooked fresh on the barbie!
If you’re keen to host your own classic Aussie barbecue, here are a few tips to get you started:
Plan the menu ahead of time
There’s nothing worse than feeling rushed off your feet when your guests arrive, so take some time out to plan out a menu before they arrive. Delicious ideas include a potato salad, fresh summer salad with mesclun lettuce, baby tomatoes and sliced boiled egg, with fruit kebabs or a pavlova for a treat after dinner.
However, the main attraction of any barbecue is the meat. Go for a classic organic beef steak cooked with crushed garlic and a hint of cracked black pepper, or get creative with organic lamb skewers, marinated with soy sauce, grated ginger and lemon juice.
Set up some entertainment
If you’ve got children as part of your guest list, go out of your way to set up a couple of games for them to play. Not only will this entertain them for the whole night, it’s likely even the adults will end up giving them a go later in the evening!
Try some backyard classics, such as a swingball set, set of wickets and a cricket bat and ball, or a few ‘goal’ areas and a soccer ball.
Tailor it to your guests
If it’s friends and family you’re inviting, you probably know them well. Take advantage and plan a night that everyone will enjoy – from music choice and dress code, to a menu full of any food preferences your guests may have. The extra bit of thought you put in will have your guests wanting to come back to your place every weekend!
